The body of a Southern California woman who has been missing for nearly two years was positively identified on an island off the coast of Panama last week, according to the FBI.

The body of Yvonne Baldelli, who has been missing since November 2011, was found zippered inside a bag on the coastline of Isla Carenero on Aug. 20. DNA analysis was used on the skull and bones by forensic scientists in Panama to identify Baldelli’s body.

Baldelli went missing about two years ago when she traveled to Panama with her boyfriend, 37-year-old Brian Karl Brimager.

Brimager is suspected of killing Baldelli, and he is accused of sending emails from her laptop pretending to be her and saying she was traveling to Costa Rica. He’s also accused of using her ATM card in Costa Rica during a two-day layover, and also using her card in San Jose to make it appear as though she was alive.

Brimager faces 10 counts of obstruction of justice and one count of false statement to a federal officer. He faces a maximum sentence of 205 years in prison and a $2.5 million fine if found guilty of all charges.

I hope they find evidence to charge him with her murder...

Rest in Peace Yvonne

My condolences to her family and friends.

BBM - How was it that she was found like this after almost 2 years? Did her body wash ashore? Was it placed there recently?

My condolences to her family and friends as well.

Missing Dana Point woman's remains found in Panama
By Paloma Esquivel
August 29, 2013, 2:57 p.m.

For 21 months, Yvonne Baldelli’s family searched for the Orange County woman after she disappeared while living with her boyfriend in Panama. They negotiated foreign bureaucracies and tried to make sense of false leads. They spent days treading through swamps on the island where she was last seen.

This week they learned that skeletal remains found on that island belong to the woman. The discovery was bittersweet, said James Faust, her father.

“We’re all grieving for her,” he said. “But this gets us closer to getting to the person responsible for her murder and getting justice.”

Baldelli’s boyfriend, Brian Brimager, who lived in Dana Point before moving to Panama, is being held on obstruction of justice charges in San Diego.

Baldelli, 41, who also lived in Dana Point, moved with Brimager to Panama in September 2011.

She was looking for a fresh start and took her sewing machines and her King Charles Spaniel, Georgia Mae. She planned on making bikinis and beach wraps for tourists, her father said. The couple rented a room at Casa del Sapo, a hostel that juts out into the clear waters of Isla Carenero.

According to federal prosecutors, Brimager almost immediately began emailing the mother of his young daughter, telling her he was going to return to California to be with her and help raise their child. He never mentioned his relationship with Baldelli.

All the while, prosecutors say, he was physically abusing his girlfriend in Panama, leaving bruises around her eyes and on her arms, according to an indictment filed in June in federal court in San Diego.

Vista Man Charged with Obstructing Murder Investigation

U.S. Attorney’s Office June 27, 2013

Southern District of California (619) 557-5610

Brian Karl Brimager, former boyfriend of United States citizen Yvonne Baldelli, was indicted by a federal grand jury in San Diego yesterday on charges that he obstructed justice and made false statements to law enforcement in connection with the investigation into Baldelli’s suspected murder in Panama in 2011. Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Brimager without incident this morning at his house in Vista.

The indictment, unsealed today, alleges that Brimager killed Baldelli in late November 2011 and then engaged in an elaborate scheme to cover up his crime. This scheme included destroying evidence, giving false information to law enforcement, and sending a series of e-mails purportedly from Baldelli making it appear to her friends and family that she was still alive and traveling with another man in Costa Rica.

According to the indictment, in September 2011, the couple moved together from Los Angeles to the archipelago of Bocas del Toro, Panama. They rented a room in a five-unit hostel on Isla Carenero, a small island near Bocas reachable only by boat. The indictment alleges that while in Panama, Baldelli suffered physical abuse at the hands of Brimager resulting in bruising around her eyes and on her arms.

Baldelli was last seen on the evening of November 26, 2011, when she left Carlos’ Steakhouse, a bar and restaurant in Bocas del Toro, with Brimager.

UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT

SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA

10 December 2012 Grand Jury UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Plaintiff, v. Brian Karl Brimager, Defendant

Case No. 13 CR 238 1JM

Indictment

Title 18, u.s.c., Sec. 1512(c) (2) - Obstruction of Justice; Title 18, U.S.C., Sec. 1001 - False Statement to a Federal Officer

The grand jury charges, at all times material:

Introductory Allegations

1. In 2009, defendant BRIAN KARL BRIMAGER ( "BRlMAGER") and victim Yvonne Baldelli ("Baldelli"), both of whom lived in Dana Point, California, began a romantic relationship.

2. On September 26, 2011, BRIMAGER and Baldelli flew from California to Bocas Del Toro, Panama ("Bocas"). Baldelli brought along her two high quality sewing machines, her King Charles Spaniel Georgia Mae, and her white Sony VAIO laptop computer.

3. Upon arrival in Bocas, BRIMAGER and Baldelli rented a room in "Casa De Sapo," a small hostel located on Isla Carenero. Isla Carenero is a small island near Bocas reachable only by water taxi or private boat.

4. Casa De Sapo, comprised of only five units, was run by an on-site manager. The manager placed BRIMAGER and Baldelli in the unit immediately next door to her own unit and quickly established a close, personal relationship with both BRIMAGER and Baldelli.

5. Almost immediately upon arrival and beginning no later than 10 October 2011, BRIMAGER began emailing another girlfriend ( "K. W."), the mother of his young daughter. In these emails, BRIMAGER discussed plans to move back to California to live with K. W. and help raise their daughter. The emails do not mention Baldelli.

6. Beginning in or before mid-October and continuing through late-November 2011, BRIMAGER began fighting with and physically abusing Baldelli. These altercations resulted in yelling and loud noises in the couple's room. During these fights, BRIMAGER struck Baldelli causing bruising around her eyes and on her arms.

7. In November 2011, BRIMAGER sent a series of emails to K.W., his mother, and a friend from the Marine Corps. In these emails, BRIMAGER indicated that he was getting bored with life in Bocas and was planning to return to California in short order. Once again, these emails do not mention Baldelli.

8. On November 24, 2011; the hostel manager broke her leg. While she was being treated in a hospital in Changuinola, Panama, she asked BRIMAGER and Baldelli to watch over the hostel. During this time period, no one lived next door to BRIMAGER and Baldelli.

9. On the evening of November 26, 2011, BRIMAGER and Baldelli went to Carlos' a bar and restaurant in Bocas. BRIMAGER and Baldelli left the bar together.

10. In or about the late evening hours of November 26 or the early morning hours of November 27, 2011, BRIMAGER killed Baldelli and disposed of her body in an unknown location.

Counts 1-10

(Obstruction of Justice)

Yvonne's sister Michele passed away from cancer the first week of November. The family lost their 3 children. Prayers for them. And such respect for Michele for fighting for her sister until the end. She gave a deposition on Oct 29th. And I am hoping it is allowed in at trial.

Ex-Marine charged with Panama murder

San Diego — A federal grand jury on Friday indicted a former Marine with murder in the death of his girlfriend in Panama, where her dismembered remains were found two years later in a duffel bag, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Brian Brimager, 39, pleaded not guilty in a hearing Friday to the charge of foreign murder of a U.S. national, a rarely used charge that must be approved at the highest levels of the Justice Department.
Brimager and his girlfriend, Yvonne Baldelli, moved from Orange County to the remote island of Isla Carenero in 2011 to start a new life. The indictment alleges he abused her and began emailing the mother of his young child, promising to return back to the U.S. and failing to mention he had a girlfriend in Panama.
Baldelli was last seen alive around the end of November that year. The indictment alleges Brimager killed her and dismembered her body, then disposed of their mattress in the ocean. Investigators found two suspicious searches on Baldelli’s computer from about that time, including “washing mattress blood stain,” the document states.
Brimager is accused of covering up the crime by creating a back story that Baldelli had run off to Costa Rica with another man. Authorities say he furthered that lie by sending emails from her account to family claiming to be her and withdrawing money from her bank account in Costa Rica during a layover as he traveled back to the U.S.,
He married the mother of his child a few weeks after returning to the U.S. and they moved to Vista.
He told the FBI during an interview about Baldelli’s whereabouts that she’d taken her laptop with her, but authorities found it in his possession, the indictment states.
Brimager has been in custody since June 2013 on other charges, including making a false statement to a federal officer and obstruction of justice.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Conover said Friday that experts are conducting a tool-mark analysis on a machete believed to be sold by Brimager to examine if it was used in the dismemberment. Brimager is accused of giving a machete to a neighbor before leaving Panama, and it was posted for sale on a website, prosecutors said in a previous court hearing. Brimager is accused of writing a comment on the ad, saying the machete had been his: “Don’t worry, I only dismembered one stripper with it so it’s hardly used ,” according to prosecutors.
During the hearing Friday, Brimager’s defense attorney, Brad Patton, indicated he would be challenging the jurisdiction to prosecute the murder charge in the U.S.
