Default Child's skull found, Opelika, Ala. 1/28/2012

Opelika, Ala. Police say the partial skull of a child was found at a trailer home park in Opelika.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said the sex and the age of the child are not immediately known.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (http://bit.ly/wMemLo) the partial skull of a 5- to 7-year-old child was found at the trailer park on Saturday morning after a resident discovered the remains.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said the sex and the age of the child are not immediately known.

No other remains were located, and Harris said the skull may have been brought to the area by animals. He said authorities are bringing in dogs to search for more remains.

http://blog.al.com/montgomery/2012/0...ue_search.html

OPELIKA, Alabama -- The Opelika Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation will continue searching the wooded areas surrounding the Brook Haven Trailer Park for any additional skeletal remains today, according to a police report.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said Tuesday that the skeletal remains of a child found in the area on Saturday, Jan. 28, indicate the child was the victim of a homicide.

The identity, race or gender of the victim has not been determined.

Additional skeletal remains near where the skull was found were discovered on Monday, Jan. 30, and Wednesday, Feb. 1, while officers searched through underbrush and thick woods near the 1700 Hurst street area.

Officers say today's search is part of the ongoing investigation. At this time, there are no additional leads or information.

snipped:

At first it was unknown whether the bones were human or animal. Tests later revealed the remains belonged to a child younger than 10. Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said Tuesday that the child died by homicidal means.

The race, gender and cause of death of the person are unknown, police said.

I don't know why but made me think of HaLeigh Cummings.

Wonder who owned/rented in the past few years?

Would this be a route you would take from Satsuma, Fl to Tenn?

Anyone familiar with the area?

Opelika is near Auburn. I would lean more toward a military family, since it is close to Ft Benning.

I don't know how to put a map up here but I did mapquest it. Start at Satsuma, FL then to Opelika, AL and final destination Nashville, TN (you have to add a stop) when doing this. It is very possible.

Has a Forensic Anthropoligist been brought in?

How long do they think these remains (God, I hate typing that, this is a child FGS) have been there?

Thanks Was. Just went and mapped it too. I see what you mean.

Probably not HaLeigh, I just always think of her and Aji. So many missing.

I thought of Asha Degree from NC, but there are so many missing children, and we know there are children that have never been reported missing. I pray they can identify the remains.

Please do some research....

This is kinda unheard of under reporting this type of a story...

There has got to be something that is being held back...maybe they suspect something but do not want to alert....

The reports I saw said that LE has no idea as they don't have any missing children reported and I checked the Center for Missing & Exploited Children and there doesn't seem to be anyone in that area that would fit the age group either. I am just praying they can still get DNA and that it is in the database to help identify.

Saucy, this says this body was found in 2004 at the link you gave and was unidentified. Did I read the wrong one?

ETA: NEVER MIND I should have kept reading...it says the body was found but no skull. And the child was 10+ years of age. LE is saying -10 but you never know.
