Prosecutors reportedly seek to revoke ‘affluenza’ mom’s bond

Tarrant County prosecutors are seeking to revoke Tonya Couch’s bond over an alleged alcohol violation last week, according to a motion filed in court Tuesday.

The motion alleged that Couch, the mother of “affluenza teen” Ethan Couch, “failed to abstain from the possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages,” a condition of her bond.

The motion filed by prosecutors Tuesday requested that Tonya Couch be held in custody until her trial, which is scheduled for Oct. 2.

Sam Jordan, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, declined to comment on the filing, citing the gag order placed on the case by state District Judge Wayne Salvant.

Couch’s attorneys, Stephanie Patten and Steve Gordon, did not respond to requests for comment.

Tonya Couch’s bond conditions set in August allowed her to possess, but not consume, alcohol.

After prosecutors learned she was working as a bartender — a job that was approved by the county probation office — they filed a motion asking Salvant to tighten her bond conditions.

Salvant modified her bond conditions in October, adding the condition of not possessing alcohol but allowing her to remove a GPS ankle monitor, according to court records.

Tarrant County Prosecutors Say Tonya Couch Violated Terms Of Bond

June 27, 2017 3:50 PM

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Tarrant County prosecutors said they have even more reason why a judge should revoke Tonya Couch’s bond and re-arrest her.

In a court filing today, prosecutors accuse Couch of violating terms of her bond by possessing a firearm.

The mother of ‘Affluenza Teen’ Ethan Couch was already accused of possessing or consuming alcohol, which is another violation of her bond.

Ultimately, a judge will get to decide.

T
Tonya Couch accused of second bond violation by prosecutors

Jun 27 2017 05:33PM CDT

Tarrant County prosecutors said Tuesday that Ethan Couch's mother, Tonya, committed two bond violations that should put her in jail.

In addition to the alcohol violation that prosecutors say she committed on May 20, Couch has now been accused of a new violation -- possession of a firearm. The incident occurred last Saturday, prosecutors said in a new court filing.

No specific details have been released about either incident.

On Thursday it was decided that Couch will not go to jail for the alleged violations, but she now has slightly tightened conditions. She cannot consume or possess alcohol, and she will now have to go to once-a-week probation meetings.

Alys Dill, general manager of the Eagles Nest sports bar in Fort Worth, said she saw Couch take a sip of beer from a glass. She said it had to have been beer because nonalcoholic beverages are served in plastic cups at the bar.

A Johnson County commissioner testified later that he had seen Couch holding a rifle at a gun show.
Jerry Stringer, who has a business that sells firearm accessories, said he'd seen Couch with a rifle on her shoulder last weekend at a gun show in Fort Worth. He said he alerted Fort Worth police at the event to what he'd seen.

Couch's attorneys argued that her alcohol screening tests have all been negative.

What is it going to take to have people who have restrictions break them to be held accountable?

Is anyone surprised that her son feels he's above the law, given that his mother can't abide by the rules?
