Can anyone picture a scenario that would materialize so quickly out of clear blue sky? DNA evidence, a confession--what?

Even so, unless Condit made a confession, they wouldn't have let this guy go. Even if Condit confessed, they would have had to have certified the confession or something. This is just amazing!!

it IS amazing. I never expected this although I had always had my doubts about this guy being the killer.

I've always suspected Condit. I might be dead wrong, there may be some killer no one knows about. I will never forget that the only reason the news trucks (which were encamped outside the Levy home) left was because of the 9/11 catastrophe. And then it all faded from the news.

yep, it was fortuitous for him, that's for sure!

everything pointed to Condit.

and now reading he was having an affair with another woman at the same time, who told LE that he liked to be aggressive during sex...

I remember thinking at the time that he was the luckiest SOB suspect who ever lived that the news cycle changed. Remember how there was speculation from Chandra's aunt that Chandra was pregnant? And remember they found a jewelry box in a dumpster? The hounds of hell were nipping at Condit's heels and then it all just...stopped.

Read the comments at the end. One poster wants to know if they dropped the case to protect Condit. Very interesting.

The fact she left her apartment with none of her personal items said, to me, she was off to meet someone she knew.

So it looks like the jailhouse informant whose testimony was relied on, committed perjury:
http://www.oregonlive.com/today/inde...t_cause_c.html

But for the past five years, while Guandique was imprisoned on what was to have been a 60-year murder sentence, defense lawyers accumulated new information that cast doubt on Morales' truthfulness. They learned that he asked to be put into the witness protection program in exchange for his testimony, even though he testified he hadn't sought any benefit for testifying.
<snip>
Meanwhile, as questions about Morales continued to grow, a woman named Babs Proller who met Morales by happenstance began recording her conversations with him, and turned them over to authorities earlier this month.
On Thursday, prosecutors dropped all charges against Guandique, saying they had received evidence recently that would make it impossible for them to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.
It's not entirely clear what's in the recordings. Bill Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office, declined to say whether the recordings prompted prosecutors to seek dismissal of the case.

Chandra's case was featured again on 20/20 this weekend. Apparently, the guy who the DA dismissed the charges was not the killer and the guy was lying when he said there was a confession. So, this murder is still a mystery.

They are still looking for that ring she was wearing. Whoever has that ring, knows something. Whether it was purchased from a pawn shop or received as a gift, that would at least start a place for them to trace it to whoever took it.
